It guides you through recovering lost files — This is a great feature if you’re not an experienced computer user. Data Recovery Pro will guide you step by step through finding your lost files.

You can search for lost files by keyword — If you know the name or part of the name of a file you’re looking for, then you can search for it rather than running a scan. This is a big time saver because it’s a lot quicker than running a complete scan. And you don’t have to sift through hundreds or thousands of scan results.

Recovers dozens of file types — No matter what type of file you’ve lost, there’s a good chance Data Recovery Pro can recover it. It even recovers compressed and encrypted files.

Recovers files from peripheral storage devices — As well as recovering files from your computer, you can also recover files from external devices, including USB thumb drives, external hard drives, and MP3 players like the iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano, and iPod Classic.

Recovers files from formatted or partitioned drives — If you’ve recently formatted or partitioned a drive, then Data Recovery Pro may still be able to recover files (assuming they haven’t been over written). It will also recover partial files due to bad sectors.

Recovers deleted emails and attachments — It includes support for PST/OST files, Outlook Express file system (DBX), Windows Mail (Vista Mail), and Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007.

You can sort your scan results — After you’ve run a scan for lost files, you can sort the results by file name, size, location, date created etc. This makes it a lot easier to find what you’re looking for.

You can preview your scan results — If it’s a JPG you will see the image. And if it’s an MP3, you’ll hear music. This is especially useful when recovering files that don’t have descriptive file names. If a file is called Love-Me-Tender.mp3, it’s obvious what it is. But IMG_0608.JPG doesn’t really tell you a lot, does it?

Dislikes

It didn’t uncover many deleted files — It didn’t uncover anywhere near as many files as Stellar Windows Data Recovery.

Bottom line

If you’ve accidentally deleted an important file, email, or MP3, then Data Recovery Pro will save your bacon.
